An Egyptian sarcophagus for Giuseppe Parvis (with Anna Tozzi Di Marco)
In the monumental cemetery of Turin there is an authentic Egyptian sarcophagus of pink granite, almost ignored, which adorns the tomb of Giuseppe Parvis. Starting from this simple observation, it was possible to reconstruct the Complex events that led this precious object to its current arrang-ement, but also the nineteenth-century history of the European presence in Egypt. This volume reports the reconstruction of the Roman anthropologist of that reality and of the figure of this illustrious forgotten Italian. At the same time, a detailed analysis of the artifact is reported which led to hypothesize its original destination to a high figure, perhaps a close relative, of the circle of the great pharaohs Khufu and Khafra.
